About this event

Presenter: Ambrose Panico

The day begins with participants engaging in an introspection activity regarding their professional practice as it relates to the teaching of Social Emotional Learning Skills (SELS). Intrinsic Understandings about teaching SELS so that kids choose to use their skills to navigate classroom life are presented. Tools and strategies that make any SELS curriculum a curriculum that positions kids to do so are offered and participants work in small groups to apply these skills to their curriculums, their kids, in their settings. Key topics include:

  • The basics of developing a caring classroom community culture. A place where kids feel safe and can be brave.
  • The basics of 3 Dimension Discipline - Preventative, Supportive, and Corrective as it applies to teaching and using SELS.
  • Strategies and tools for facilitating kids using their SELS to navigate daily classroom life.
  • Strategies and tools for facilitating kids using their SELS to solve conflicts.
  • How to use Individual Collaborative Conferencing to support kids using their SELS within the context of the correction/discipline process, so that the teacher-student relationship is enriched instead of being damaged.
