Join Chris Swecker and Leah Gerbitz as they explore cybersecurity threats companies face today and the potential for massive financial losses, reputation and legal risks as a result of being the target of financial crimes or data breaches. A company’s data and network security can be compromised when sophisticated cyber criminals deploy such schemes as email phishing, computer hacking, social engineering, ransomware, malware, wire fraud, identity theft, and more to gain access to security controls, as well as confidential financial and personal information. This presentation will cover corporate case studies demonstrating the real impact of cyber attacks; privacy & data security standards and compliance; effective strategies to reduce risk and liabilities; and best practices for data breach response and crisis management in the event of an attack.

Chris Swecker, an attorney with Miller & Martin’s Charlotte office and experienced fraud & security consultant, will be presenting. Mr. Swecker is a former FBI Assistant Director/Acting Executive Assistant Director and also previously served as Corporate Security Executive for Bank of America. In his role with the FBI, he was third in command for the agency and responsible for all criminal and cyber investigations globally. He has nearly 40 years of experience in criminal prosecutions, law enforcement, national security, legal and corporate security/risk management positions and focuses his practice on financial crimes, security issues/compliance and securities law, as well as Director and Officer Liability. Leah Gerbitz, a Miller & Martin litigation attorney and the firm’s Privacy and Data Security Officer, will also share insights from her experience regarding corporate responsibility and legal implications related to risk management and breach response. Leah Gerbitz practices in the area of civil litigation with an emphasis on healthcare, data security and products liability. She manages diverse complex litigation matters, and she has tried multiple cases to verdict in state and federal courts.
