About this event

THREE CRISES, ONE OPPORTUNITY

As you are aware our society faces three simultaneous global crises: the COVID Pandemic, the fight against racism and economic injustice, and the Climate Emergency.

While seemingly isolated events, Carbon Free Chicago sees these crises as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring people together to build strong, resilient communities.

CFC’s call for the prompt and equitable transition to a decarbonized Chicago would improve respiratory health and create jobs, urgently needed corollary benefits central to tackling COVID and getting people back to work. As all three crises demand our immediate action, how can we move forward with urgency?

THE CHICAGO COMMON AGENDA

Aside from Chicago City Council declaring a Climate Emergency in February 2020, Chicago has done virtually nothing to stop burning fossil fuels.

The Common Agenda is a five-year campaign for the City of Chicago to adopt progressive building codes concerning energy efficiency and beneficial electrification of both existing and new buildings. The engine of this strategy is for the building sector (private sector and not-for-profit) to organize support for the ordinances and to work closely with City Council to develop the ordinances, with a strong emphasis on environmental justice, and get them enacted by April 22 (Earth Day) 2021.
