About this event

We believe families are the best place for conversations about puberty, sex, and other topics on growing up. In collaboration with Great Conversations, we are pleased to offer The Chat In-Person.

The Chat In-person consists of two 2-hour sessions for a preteen 10-12 years old and a grown-up to attend together. Our classes discuss puberty, sexuality, communication, and decision making in an informative, humorous, and lively manner. Our goal is to create opportunities for families to engage with each other and grow in the experience of talking about these topics. The Chat In-person and The Chat Virtual mirror each other in content and curriculum, allowing all genders to learn about puberty and growing up in the same space. Differing from our previous in-person class (Heart to Heart), The Chat classes are not separated by gender. Reference our FAQs here to learn more. We are currently offering The Chat In-person in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Campbell.

What you will learn:

Session One

  • An introduction to the puberty experience for every body including body odor, pimples, hair, growth, and voice changes.
  • What most girls experience in puberty including breasts, periods, masturbation, self-concept.
  • What most boys experience in puberty including erections, ejaculation, masturbation and self-concept.

Session Two

  • How our brains change during puberty.
  • Exploration of emotional regulation, decision-making, healthy conversations with family and friends, crushes, and consent.
  • Being sexual, sexual reproduction, healthy relationships, and sexual decision-making.

What is included in my registration?

Upcoming Class Schedule:

SCHEDULING NOTE: The two sessions can either be offered on Two Days one week apart or both on One Day with a 30 minute break in between sessions. When registering, you will only see listings of the first session; however, both sessions are automatically included in the registration fee. Please take note of our current schedule and mark your calendars accordingly for both sessions.

Rescheduling & Cancelations:

If you wish to attend the second session at a later date, you have one calendar year to reschedule. Please email us at LPCHCommunityClass@stanfordchildrens.org to request to space your sessions farther apart.

The Chat In-person and The Chat Virtual session registrations are not interchangeable on the same registration ticket.

If you need to reschedule both sessions to a new series, please cancel your registration and re-register for the new date. You will have up until 7 days before your class start date to cancel your class and receive a full refund to original payment method. This can be done via the "view and manage your order" link in your registration confirmation email. Requests made within 7 days of the class will receive attendee credit.
