About this event

Join D.J. Haverkamp of Bedford Honeybee Service, to learn all about bees and wasps and their important role in the environment.

We’ll discuss their life cycle, nesting behavior, and threats to their existence as we approach World Bee Day on May 20. View live honeybees in a glass-walled hive to get a peek behind-the-scenes, and observe other nests for comparison.

This is a great introduction for anyone interested in bees, beekeeping, or protecting these precious pollinators.

Meet in the Visitor Center courtyard. This program involves a short hike (less than a mile) but will include a hill. There will be seating available in a shaded area for the majority of the program.

Please wear sun protection, bring water to drink, and wear comfortable closed-toed shoes. In case of bad weather, the program may be canceled or postponed; you will be notified by 5 pm the day prior.

Max: 20 people

Parking: $6 per vehicle

Rockefeller State Park Preserve was created through several farsighted and generous gifts to the State of New York by the Rockefeller Family since 1983. It is designated as a “park-preserve” to highlight and protect its natural, historical, and cultural values. Its network of carriage trails wind through scenic forests, fields, and wetlands, which provide important habitat for native plants and wildlife.

The Preserve Office and Gallery are open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and are located at 125 Phelps Way, Pleasantville, N.Y. 10570.
