About this event

  • 1 hour

On Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m. in the Mackay Room, Lourdes Laifer discusses the brain benefits of Mindfulness and meditation. Lourdes note the researched improvements these activities have on brain function such as an improvement on memory, attention, executive function and creativity. Most people aren't aware of this and some may have written meditation off as not for them. However, as this is a different perspective on the benefits of meditation and mindfulness (as opposed to calm, inner peace etc) it draws people in and makes them more interested in giving it a try.

Also, there are a lot of myths about meditation which she dispels as she goes through her presentation while also introducing simple practices in which participants are able to experience a bit of the benefits of even just a few minutes of meditation and mindfulness practice.

Lourdes is a life coach with a B.A. in Psychology and has been coaching since 2018. During the pandemic, she worked with the Department of Health, helping people navigate that extremely challenging time. Now she feels blessed to be able to help people struggling with issues like self-belief, anxiety, boundary setting, life transitions, negative thinking, and stress.

In addition to her coaching work, Lourdes is a resident in an MBSR teacher training program and loves to share the benefits of mindfulness and meditation with others.

Lourdes has lived in Cold Spring for the past 15 years, where she raised two daughters while volunteering in the community, at The Butterfield Library, and in the Haldane PTA, where she served as president. She enjoys meditation, yoga, hiking, long hot baths, karaoke, and Qigong.
