Overview

Black Oak Ensemble thrills worldwide with bold programs, Billboard-topping albums, and a deep commitment to education and new music.

Praised for its “insightful, committed and masterful performances” (Classics Today), the Black Oak Ensemble is one of today’s most dynamic chamber groups. Their album Avant l’orage topped the Billboard Classical Charts and earned a 2023 ICMA nomination, while their debut Silenced Voices received critical acclaim for honoring Jewish composers lost in the Holocaust. Known for adventurous programming and international performances, they have commissioned works by Errollyn Wallen, Shirley Thompson, and Conrad Tao. Members Desirée Ruhstrat, David Cunliffe, and Aurélien Fort Pederzoli are also dedicated educators, partnering with programs like RAVINIA’s El Sistema and the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative.
