About this event

W ho Are The Black Foxes?

The Black Foxes is an international collective of eight unapologetically Black cyclists and outdoors-people that are reclaiming our narratives and roles in the outdoors. We embody the journey of the black fox by combating historical exploitation with the centering of joy, connecting fellow riders and outdoors people, sharing our stories, and providing more representation within cycling and the outdoors.

H ow Did The Den Retreat Come About?

Since the inception of The Black Foxes in 2020, we have envisioned putting on our own event to create and maintain a safe space for learning, joy, and the celebration of diversity in outdoor recreation with the guidance of all 8 members of The Black Foxes and their community partners. We are so excited to finally welcome you all, but we are especially excited to host outdoor enthusiastic & outdoor-curious Black, Indigenous, and People of Color of all fitness levels. Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Camp Grier (the venue)?

(1) By car-parking is available on-site and we will share a carpool planning resource with all participants. (2) By plane-a roundtrip shuttle will be available from Charlotte Douglas International Airport for a fee of $100. Pickup on Thursday Oct 17 at 1pm, and Dropoff on Sunday Oct 20 at 1pm.

Will there be food options for different dietary restrictions?

Yes. We collect information about all participants' dietary restrictions to curate a menu that will meet everyone's needs whether you are vegan, gluten-free, or have an allergy. We do recommend bringing any snacks, ride nutrition, etc. that you strongly prefer to have as extra fuel for activities.

What if I have never ridden a bike or gone on a hike before?

That's okay! We warmly welcome beginners to this safe space to try things for the first time with a community of folks who can meet them where they are and provide the support they need to experience joy in new things. We encourage you to check out our website for tips & tricks on being outdoors.
