Based in Buffalo, NY, we're all about connecting people, and sharing stories. 21_Connect

Join us Saturday, April 29th for a specialized workshop on behavior and Down Syndrome. Author of the popular book, Supporting Positive Behavior in Children and Teens with Down Syndrome: The Respond but Don't React Method, Dr. David Stein of Boston will be in Buffalo to present the basic neuroscience of Down Syndrome, and how this informs effective behavior management.  Workshop attendees will leave equipped with practical strategies to immediately employ at home or in school. Broad application of Dr. Stein's approach can apply to many children with special needs, and not just those with Down Syndrome. All parents and professionals welcome.  3 credit hours of continuing education offered to ASHA, AOTA, PT, teachers, and social work. In partnership with Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center. Please see below for complete professional credit details. A catered lunch provided by Olivers is included with your ticket purchase. Free parking available directly behind Burchfield in the corresponding parking lot.

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

<LI>Describe the basic differences in neurodevelopment in individuals with Down Syndrome;</LI>
<LI>Describe basic behavior methods and those which are effective for individuals with Down Syndrome;</LI>
<LI>Describe the development of individuals with Down Syndrome into adolescence and effective strategies to support individuals throughout this transition. </LI>

10:30-11:30 - The brain in Down Syndrome and its impact upon behavior
11:30-12:00 - Behavior management methods and specific techniques which are effective for individuals with Down Syndrome- part 1
12:00-12:30 - Lunch break
12:30-1:00 - Behavior management methods and specific techniques which are effective for individuals with Down Syndrome- part 2
1:00-2:00 - Development in Down Syndrome in childhood and adolescence, and how to manage changes in behavior over time, and Q & A.
