Understanding the Brain Through Dance with Sloka Iyengar

Sloka Iyengar, PhD, is a neuroscientist and practitioner of a traditional Indian dance form called Bharatanatyam. She is passionate about relieving suffering through the sciences and the arts. Through dance and science, Sloka will articulate how the seemingly disparate disciplines of the arts and sciences can be thought of as complementary ways of understanding the world around us. By demonstrating movement, patterns, symbols, and emotions in Bharatanatyam, Sloka will present how the sciences and the arts can provide a united, holistic continuum for human understanding and bring people together.

Artists in the Education Lab with Sleepyfoot? and Ezra Wube

Every year the Zuckerman Institute commissions an artist to create an original artwork that will invite and inspire community members to explore science through an artistic lens. Our current Artist in the Ed Lab Sleepyfoot? (aka Manon Casimir-Sainton) will present her work Sensory Bop and join our incoming Artist Ezra Wube in a conversation about creativity, science, and the community.

Cornerstone Intergenerational Choir

Sing along with this intergenerational choir that meets at the Grant Cornerstone Community center in Harlem. A group founded through the Every Voice Choirs program in 2023, Cornerstone Community Choir strives to reach the whole community by offering weekly hour-long community singing. All are welcome!

The Laboratory - an Improv Show

In this experimental show, a conversation with a scientist about their life and science inspires a set of hilarious, never-to-be-seen-again improv comedy. Guest scientist, the Zuckerman Institute's own Dr. Thiago Arzu, will join this talented improv ensemble with Davonte Smith, Patrick Hogan, Chris Bouknight, Justin Torres, Colin Fisher, Michael Hochman, Michael MacKenzie, Charlie Nicholson, and Rajyashree Sen.

Visit the Education Lab and the BioBus Mobile Lab

The Education Lab at the Jerome L. Greene Science Center will be open to visitors. Come explore our popular brain bank, a collection of brains from sheep, human, whale, and more! Then pop into the BioBus Mobile Lab, which will be parked on 129th Street. You'll be able to discover fascinating creatures using their high-resolution microscopes. We are grateful to the generous support we receive Apple Bank and ARNI-Institute.
