About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

The Art of Public Health is a multidisciplinary course that empowers graduate and undergraduate students at UC Berkeley to utilize art as a tool for community engagement, communication, and advocacy.

For the six weeks in advance of this show, our student artists have explored the intersection of climate change and community.

The Art of Public Health was created in 2022 by, and is taught by, Somalee Banerjee, MD, and Jaspal Sandhu, PhD. Spring 2024 is the third edition of the course. It is supported by Creative Manager Celine To, and the following individuals from the Community Health Sciences Division at Berkeley Public Health: Yasmin Wofford, Division Manager, Gladys Fleitas, Division Administrator, and Norma Firestone, Program Manager.

Please join us at Platform ArtSpace on April 30th to celebrate our student artists.

Platform Artspace is an outdoor exhibition laboratory in the Department of Art Practice at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on socially engaged art projects, pop-up exhibitions, and community events.

Platform Artspace is located in the southern courtyard of Bauer-Wurster Hall on the UC Berkeley campus. The closest intersection is College Avenue and Bancroft Way, and metered street parking is available. Look for the enormous orange sign!

The course is made possible by the generous support of The Center for Entrepreneurship in International Health and Development (CEIHD), Community Health Sciences, The Wallace Center for Maternal, Child, & Adolescent Health, the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation, and the Berkeley Art Museum. Dr. Tom Janisse provided key support to launch the course during its first two years. The following institutions have provided in-kind support to our course: SFMOMA, Oakland Museum of California, Museum of the African Diaspora, and the Museum of Craft and Design.
