The purpose of this course is to teach the student to properly take personal body measurements and using the measurements to draft the basic blocks (patterns): Front and Back Torso, Skirt, Sleeves, and Pants.

You will learn the principles of “haute couture,” how to interpret a specific design or your own idea by following the five steps of pattern and design transformation. You will also learn how to transform the basic blocks, how to properly build (sew) any inspiration or creation while obtaining the proper garment balance, accurate fit, and fine craftmanship. You will participate in several projects as the classes are hands-on with discussion, drafting, cutting, sewing, and practicing. Sewing machines are provided in the classroom but are limited; students are welcomed to bring portable sewing machines. A $175 materials fee will be needed to purchase patternmaking rulers, basic tools, and any other necessary materials This course is a 16-class course (2.5 hrs per session, 2 times per week (T/Th) for 8-weeks).
