About this event

The MRISJ Civic Speaker Series presents The Aftermath of Fast Fashion! Join us on Thursday, April 18th for a special panel discussion with the minds behind Aftermath, a large-scale multi-media sculpture and art advocacy collaboration. Panelists will discuss the disastrous impact of clothing donations to other countries, putting boycotting and ‘buycotting’ into action, the power of art as advocacy, and much more.

The Aftermath sculpture uses art to illustrate the global impacts of textile pollution forcing consumers to face the monster in their closets. Together, we will examine the role throwaway consumption and “fast fashion” play in the lasting environmental impacts of textile pollution and how it all connects to social justice.

Panelists include developmental psychologist Dr. Julia DeVoy and internationally acclaimed artist Mark Cooper, two of the minds behind Aftermath.

MRISJ thanks Santander Bank for their generous support of our Civic Speaker Series.
