Join us for The Accidental Educator, where we'll explore how everyday experiences can teach us valuable lessons without even realizing it!

Welcome to The Accidental Educator event! 🎓 For academics, teaching and learning is the yin to research's yang, forming a whole of our interest in the education sector. However, unknown to many, professional services staff also operate in both of these areas whilst supporting academic development. This talk will explore what it means to teach outside of traditional academic training, the importance of pedagogy to everyone, and how we can all learn a lot from thinking a little about how we inspire others in our professions.Speaker bio: Jo Baines (she/they) is the Academic Liaison Librarian / Archivist for UCL Special Collections, where she leads teaching and engagement with historic material at UCL’s new Stratford campus. She has been working with special collections since 2011, and in academic libraries since 2010. She is a Fellow of Advance HE and holds an MA in Information and Library Studies. Alongside all things education and special collections, Jo is also an accredited trainer for Wikimedia UK, a strong advocate for equitable and accessible education, and an Assistant Leader for Brownies in Girlguiding UK. Their research interests focus around access and use of special collections, creative learning and teaching, and exploring how we engage users with historically challenging material.
