The Aaron Riel Memorial Pingolf Championship

The Aaron Riel Memorial Pingolf Championship is a sanctioned IFPA Event taking place at Lumberjaxe Axe Throwing and Arcade in Fairmont, WV on August 10, 2024.

The event coordinator for the tournament is Brian Dye. Event coordinators organize volunteers, designate scorekeepers, handle malfunctions and rulings, delegate responsibilities and authority, and otherwise work to ensure the smooth operation of the tournament. Event coordinators and designated officials are not excluded from tournament play but will be recused from any situation that directly affects their actual or potential standing as a player. There is a maximum player limit of 72 players for this event.

This is a charity event being held to remember and celebrate the life of Aaron Riel, who tragically and unexpectedly passed away in 2019. Aaron was at some of the first pinball events that I ran as a tournament director and was also at the very first WV State Championship. Aaron is survived by his mother, brother, and young daughter. I have worked closely with Aaron’s brother, David Riel to organize this effort. All monetary proceeds from entry fees, donations, hole sponsors, and raffle ticket sales will be put towards a certified college savings fund for Aaron’s young daughter. This fund is going to be personally maintained by David.

There will be varying scheduled depending on the number of competitors registered for the event. If there are between 1-36 players registered, qualifying and finals will take place on the same day. If there are 36-72 players registered, qualifying will be broken up into two time slots and finals will be held on Sunday.
