Do I have to be an HBCU student to register for this event?

Accepted Answer

No. Although this event was created specifically for HBCU students and alumni, anyone can register and participate. However, we ask that only prospective law students, pre-law advisors, career advisors, professors, parents, mentors, supporters, law students and lawyers register.

When is the summit?

Accepted Answer

The summit takes place on Friday, September 22, 2023 and Saturday, September 23, 2023. However, there is also an Optional Bonus Day on Thursday, September 21, 2023 which  includes tours of non-HBCU law schools, and the U.S. Capitol Building and the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as a Networking Night.

This year's event will take place primarily at HBCU - the University of the District of Columbia.

The address for the University of the District of Columbia is 4200 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20008.

How  do I get there?

Accepted Answer

You can take an Uber or Lyft. You can also take public transportation via the METRO subway line, the Redline, and get off at the Van Ness-UDC Metro stop. For information on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, visit https://wmata.com/.

If I drive to the venue, where do I park my car?

You will have to pay $12 for a parking pass. Note that this pass only allows for one entry.

How do you get to the UDC School of Law from the Van Ness-UDC Metro stop?

Exit the Metro station. You will see Starbucks on your left. Turn left on the sidewalk where you see the business Eva Realty, LLC. Keep straight. You will cross the street at Windom Place and see a Potbelly Sandwich Shop on the corner. Keep walking and you will see a restaurant called Viet Chopstick

How do you get to the UDC Student Center and Theater of the Arts from the Van Ness-UDC Metro stop?

Are there any recommended hotels near the host venue - the University of the District of Columbia?

Accepted Answer

We recommend the Days Inn by Wyndham Washington DC/Connecticut Avenue first because it is located extremely close to the UDC School of Law. We also recommend the Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington DC Chevy Chase Pavilion and the Omni Shoreham Hotel Washington.

Where can I find the schedule for the in-person and virtual events?

The schedule for the in-person event is on the website. It will also be sent to you multiple times after registering.

How does check-in work?

Accepted Answer

Just go to the Registration Center at the event, and we will check you in. If you already registered, it will be a smooth process. If you did not, you will have access to a computer station where you can go ahead and get registered.

What is the cost to attend?

Registration is completely free of charge! You always have the option to upgrade to VIP status for a fee for additional gifts and perks.

Only Law Expo exhibitors and observers are required to pay.

If I don't have the personal funds to make the trip to DC, what can I do to attend?

We provide a complimentary sponsorship guidance book which has ideas for getting your trip funded.

How can I cut costs so the trip can be more affordable?

Accepted Answer

Attendance at the conference on a very tight budget is possible and does not have to be expensive as long as you plan in advance. Some ideas: use a budget airline, take a bus or train if less expensive, share your hotel room, stay at a hostel, stick to a meal budget.

What is the expected attire for the event?

Plan to dress in business casual or business professional attire.

What is the fee for the visits to the U.S. Capitol Building and the U.S. Supreme Court?

Accepted Answer

There is no fee for visits to the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Capitol. The U.S. Supreme Court has NOT yet resumed tours of their building or lectures. We will continue to keep checking to see if they will open back up before the event. The U.S. Capitol building has resumed tours.
