About this event

Thailand Study Abroad Adventure 2025:

Come join Michael, Meredith & Erin on a restorative retreat in the magical Kingdom of Thailand. Our tour will take place in and around Old Chiang Mai, in Northern Thailand. About half the tour is exploring the richness of Thailand's culture and beauty and the other half of the tour is learning new Thai Massage techniques and theory. Michael will offer his '12 CE hour 'Next Level Thai Yoga Bodywork' course. We will also be studying with a few other master Thai massage teachers including Flora Bisagono (Osteo-Thai), Aon Boonthume (Traditional Thai Masasge) and Om (Herbal Compress). Please note that this tour is more of a 'study abroad' trip than a 'vacation.' We expect all participants to behave ethically, exhibit respect for Thai culture as well as to take full responsibility for their own experience.

Please watch this 3 minute overview filmed on location in 2018:

We will divide the trip up into two parts:

Part 1: Eco Resort: We will arrange to pick you up from Chiang Mai Airport and take you to the Eco Resort in Northern Thailand. This resort has an olympic size swimming pool (so be sure to bring a few pairs of bathing suits). They also have a program room that we will use for daily yoga practice, integration circles and some special night time activities. The first week we will be studying at The Sunshine school with a well renowned Italian Thai therapist and teacher, Flora Bisogono, learning Dynamic Thai techniques. In this three day course, we will be focusing on restoring mobility in the major joints of the body. We will then spend two days learning Michael’s ‘Next Level Thai Massage’ course. This 12 CE hour course is approved by NCBTMB and will focus on more advanced techniques and 'hands free' options. For these 5 days, We will have three hours of class time in the morning and afternoon. There will be lots of opportunities to both enhance and hone your Thai Massage skills with our one on one guidance from Michael and his team. Additional offerings include a trip to a private hot springs, a guided exploration of an underground temple cave, a monk led immersion into Thai Buddhism and Wat Phra Doi Saket (one of the most stunning Buddhist temples in all of Thailand). There will also be lots of massage receiving opportunities, as well as optional nightly excursions to restaurants, markets & music. Meredith (who speaks Thai fluently) will also be offering an introduction to Thai language and culture class as well as song circles.

Part 2: Old Chiang Mai: In this second week of the trip, we will have more independence, more options and more time to explore various aspects of Thailand. We will stay in a sweet family run guest house called The Libra House. It is located in my favorite part of the 'old city' of Chiang Mai, walking distance to local markets, great health conscious restaurants, fresh juice bars, temples, yoga studios and some talented Thai massage therapists.

Additional offerings on the second week include a day of Thai Herbal Compress study and treatment, visiting an Elephant Sanctuary, visiting a Hilltribe village, trekking to a stunning waterfall and a jungle trek to a gorgeous hot springs resort. We will also spend a half day at an organic farm where we will experience a delicious Thai cooking course and meal.

Frequently asked questions

About how much total do I need for this trip?

The tuition is $1995 The plane ticket is between $1500 and $2500 I suggest an additional $500 in spending money Total is roughly $4500, but could be more or less depending on your plane ticket and shopping style.

Is this trip considered a business 'write off'?

I believe it is and many folks have written off the entire thing in the past. Of course this depends on what your business is and you may need to hold onto receipts. It's always best to consult your tax accountant.

Will I receive NCBTMB approved CE's and if so, how many?

Yes, 12 from me and 18 from Sunshine School, so 30 in total.

Do I need any shots or proof of vaccines to enter Thailand?

No, nothing official is required. Best to consult your physician to see if they recommend anything.

What is required to enter Thailand?

A valid U.S. passport. You will receive a 30 day travel visa upon entry. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, you will need to obtain a visa, either in Thailand or before you arrive. Please make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date.

Can I bring my partner, friend or child?

Yes you can but the cost is the same for everyone.

Am I required to go to all the classes?

No, you are free to design your trip as you like. There is no pressure to join in any of the itinerary offerings. You are always welcome to rest or do your own thing. Just let me know.

What day should I plan to arrive?

Our opening circle is the evening of January 26. Plan to arrive on either the evening of the 25th or during the day of the 26th. Let me know when you plan to arrive so I can arrange airport pick up for you.

What day should I plan to leave?

Our closing circle is the evening of February 5th and your lodging is covered through the morning of the 6th. No one ever wants to leave and some folks choose to extend their stay, so if you are able, add on a few extra days. You can arrange accommodations once you are there.

Whats the best way to get there?

There are no direct flights, so you will need to plan a stopover. Usually in Asia or the Middle East. You can plan a shorter stopover or its also nice to do an overnight to get a good nights sleep. I like stopping off in S. Korea.

Any tips for booking a flight...

Yes, lots of them...1) Best to book with airline miles if possible, as flights are easily changeable and you will save $. 2) Search from a major international airport. I will help you with this process and we will have a group Facebook page where we can share research and find travel companions.

Email me at: michaelsitzer@gmail.com Let me know if you have any other questions. I will send you an application to fill out and some more details.
