Pietro Passarelli (@pietropassarell)is a software developer and documentary filmmaker.2016Knight-Mozilla fellow, at Vox Media in NYC, where he worked onautoEdit. Soon to be joining McClatchy Video Products team in Washington DC.Ben Moskowitz(@benrito) is a public interest technologist based in NYC.He leads development for innovation at the International Rescue Committee and previously led development strategy for the Mozilla Foundation.

<P>In recent years there has been great technical progress and innovation in online video. A particularly interesting practice is the use of captions and transcripts to facilitate and speed up video production.</P>
<P>TextA/V is a three-day working group in New York City, July 19-21, with leading technologists, application developers, and practitioners working in this area.<BR></P>
<H2>Goals</H2>
<P>The goal of this workshop is three-fold:</P>
<P>1. To provide an overview of current software projects and practices; <BR>2. Explore challenges in the ecosystem, from transcription to URL addressability, GUIs for collaboration, automation, muxing and beyond; <BR>3. To catalyze new open source collaborations to further build out the ecosystem.</P>
<H2>Participants</H2>
<P>We anticipate participation from technology companies (Mozilla, IBM, YouTube) journalism (BBC, Buzzfeed, Fusion, NYT, Vox Media), public interest media (Internet Archive, Wikimedia, NPR), and others.</P>
<H2>Provisional schedule</H2>
<P>10am to 5pm each day, with coffee and lunch provided.</P>
<P>Day 1:<STRONG> Knowledge share</STRONG>; presentations that showcase projects & libraries <BR>Day 2<STRONG>: Groups hack</STRONG> on their domains / topics (eg more documentation, new prototype, refactor module into standalone component from existing project, et etc)<BR>Day 3: <STRONG>Documentation day</STRONG> + presentation at the end.</P>
