The workshop on Future-proof Distributed/Federated Learning will take place May 1-2, 2025 in Houston, TX at Rice University.

Summary: The purpose of this workshop is to gather leading researchers on Federated Learning, Distributed Computing and Large-Scale ML at Rice University; the workshop will discuss and focus on efficient distributed learning algorithms on how to train such large models using less costly/specialized computing platforms. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, Systems and infrastructure, Fairness, Hardware for on-device distributed learning, Privacy concerns, Optimization advances, Theoretical contributions, and Applications of distributed learning.

This workshop has received funding from Rice University as part of the Conference and Workshop Development Fund, and the Rice Engineering Innovation Conference and Workshop Fund. The Ken Kennedy Institute generously provided great assistance organizing this workshop.

Cost: The $50 registration fee covers breakfast, lunch, and refreshments on both days.

Attendees should bring a charged laptop (power outlets are limited) and a charging cable. You will be able to connect to Rice Visitor WiFi. Food and drinks will be provided each day.

I am attending from out of town — where should I stay?

There are multiple hotel choices are available around the campus or in the Texas Medical Center area. The recommended hotel is InterContinental Houston – Medical Center, which offers a discount for Rice University guests. To attend both days, it is recommended to arrive on the evening of April 30.
