At first glance Tenleytown appears to be just another stop on the Metro, but it's much more than that! Tenleytown is the second oldest neighborhood in Washington, DC and has been at the crossroads of history for hundreds of years - from the time of indigenous people to Colonial times, the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement and even today. Famous Tenleytown visitors include George Washington, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Charles Dickens, Walt Whitman and many more. Parking & Transportation

Allow 10 minutes to find street parking if you drive. The Tenleytown Metro station is less than a quarter mile (.4 km) from the meeting spot. The 31, 33 and N2 bus lines have a stop about a quarter mile (.4km) from the meeting spot.

Can I bring my pet?

Although we love pets, we ask that you leave them at home for the tour.

How far do we walk?

The tour is approximately 1.25 miles (2.1 kilometers).

How long does the tour take?

Tours are typically just about two hours with short bursts of walking and frequent stops to relay information.

How many people are typically on a tour?

Tour sizes typically range between 12 and 25 people.

What is the inclement weather policy?

If there is a greater than 50% chance of lightning or severe weather during tour hours, the tour will be canceled. You will be eligible to change tour dates or receive a full refund for the cost of the ticket.

Are there bathroom facilities on the tour route?

There are no nearby public restrooms near the tour route, please plan accordingly.

What should I wear and what should I bring for the tour?

Please bring a water bottle, wear sunscreen and dress in clothes that are appropriate for the weather. Also, please wear comfortable shoes that can get a little bit wet. We will be walking on grass since and that can be a little damp and slippery.

Is the tour accessible for people with disabilities?

Unfortunately, this tour is not wheelchair or stroller accessible due to grassy steep hills, uneven alleys streets and lack of sidewalks. There are not many places to sit down on the tour, so please be aware that you will be standing the entire time.
