About this event

Arts • Theatre

Tell Me Where It Hurts is a bold new play that follows Chrissy, a dedicated drama teacher navigating life with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). She is determined to stage the school play while also mentoring Annie, a talented yet troubled student who is auditioning for a prestigious performing arts school. As both women wrestle with their own bodies and emotions, they find themselves facing a shared struggle... the feeling of being unheard and misunderstood by the world around them. At the same time, Chrissy is grappling with tensions in her personal life, particularly with her partner, Nathan, who longs for a child, a desire that clashes with her own uncertainties. The play sheds light on the resilience required to manage women’s health issues in a world that often fails to recognise them.

This one-off work-in-progress showing offers audiences an intimate first look at the play in development. While the performance will feature limited set, lighting, sound, and costume design, a ‘look book’ will be available to share the creative vision for the full production.

The PMDD Project, our partnered charity, will also be present, and audiences are invited to share anonymous feedback via a QR code to help shape the play’s next stage.

Reactions from our rehearsed reading included: “I feel seen,” “I will recommend this to my daughters, friends and if I had sons, them too,” and “A great balance of comedy and drama — I was gripped from start to finish.”
