WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Join this Teen Summer Filmmaking workshop designed for young artists. You will learn to use an iPad to create a compelling narrative about yourself or your family. This workshop is designed to help you share your personal experiences, allowing you to express yourself creatively and connect with others. The workshop will guide you through the filmmaking process from script writing, concept development to post-production. Whether you want to explore your own identity, document your family history, or shed light on an important issue, this workshop will give you the tools to tell the story. At the end of the program, we'll showcase your films for friends and family, giving you the chance to share your vision and inspire others. Space is limited.

Additional Info: Docs will supply the iPads and editing software; participants can refrigerate their lunches; water and snacks will be provided.

Docs In Progress is located on the ground level of the Alexander House. The entrance for Docs In Progress is on Apple Ave. Parking garage, walking distance: Cameron Street Garage. Metro Station Red Line: Silver Spring (walking distance 5-7 minutes).

Withdrawal:20 or more calendar days before the first day of a program: 75% refund

Withdrawal :11-19 calendar days before the first day of a program: 50% refund

Withdrawal :10 or fewer calendar days before a program: No refund

TEACHING ARTIST: Phillip Le’sean Bouknight

Phillip led this Teen Summer workshop for Docs In Progress in 2022 and this year joins us as a Teaching Artist for Village Reels. An MFA Candidate in Film and Media Arts at American University. Phil's desire for the future is to tell compelling, impactful stories where all cultures and walks of life can be seen and heard. His most recent short documentary, "East of the River", is making festival rounds and just won best short documentary at the DC Independent Film Festival and at the Bethesda Film Fest 2023. Phil has also taught with Action Youth Media in their afterschool program.

"Building Momentum" was produced during the 2023 Teen Summer workshop.

"Overcoming Insecurities" was produced in the 2023 summer filmmaking workshop.
