With realistic acumen and artistic expertise, ADIEU LACAN portrays the struggles of a young woman, Seriema, who is trying to understand why her path to motherhood has reached an unbearable impasse.

Following two miscarriages and the possible loss of her marriage, Seriema travels to Paris in 1972 to undergo psychoanalytic treatment with the maverick French analyst, Jacques Lacan.

Her analysis is an attempt to help her to disentangle the enigma of her question: why has motherhood become a seeming impossibility?

Inspired by the story of Betty Milan, a Brazilian psychoanalyst and writer, it follows closely her own actual psychoanalysis with Lacan.

Based on her play “Goodbye, Doctor” and her novel “Lacan’s Parrot,” in which Milan recounts her analytic work, ADIEU LACAN offers an insightful and accurate account of an actual psychoanalytic cure.

Fort d’une vision à la fois réaliste et artistique, ADIEU LACAN dépeint le combat de Seriema, une jeune femme brésilienne, qui tente de comprendre l’impasse insurmontable qu’est devenu son cheminement vers la maternité.

Après deux fausses couches et leurs conséquences éprouvantes sur son mariage, Seriema se rend à Paris en 1972 afin de suivre une psychanalyse avec l’analyste anticonformiste français Jacques Lacan.

À travers cette analyse, Lacan va la guider pour résoudre son questionnement énigmatique : pourquoi devenir mère lui semble irréalisable ?

Inspiré de l'histoire de la psychanalyste et écrivaine brésilienne Betty Milan, le film suit de près sa propre psychanalyse avec Lacan. ADIEU LACAN offre ainsi le récit perspicace et précis d'une cure psychanalytique réelle en se basant sur les œuvres de Betty Milan - la pièce de théâtre « Adieu docteur » et le roman « Le perroquet de Lacan » - dans lesquelles elle raconte son travail analytique.
