TechWomen partners with the most innovative companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley and Chicago to host emerging women leaders for a project-based mentorship. These women hail from developing countries and are recognized for their achievements and potential to excel in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

In a sector with the potential to lift more than half a billion people in emerging markets out of poverty over the next decade, TechWomen is enhancing and supporting access for women around the globe. In its first year in 2011, TechWomen launched with 37 participants from six countries in the Middle East. In 2024, 103 emerging women leaders from 21 countries in Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East will participate.

TechWomen is funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by IIE. TechWomen aims to address seven policy areas: economic impact, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, youth engagement, professional growth, education diplomacy/mentoring, and empowering women and girls.
