Industrial Logic

Enhance your software development skills. Held on Mondays &amp; Thursdays for 8 weeks from 9 am - 11am pacific for 24 total hours of sessions.

To be successful, technical leaders need to be adept at both technical and behavioral practices. How can you work harmoniously with teammates, manage technical debt, reduce the number of defects produced, and reliably get work done?We created the Technical Excellence Workshop for current and up-and-coming technical leaders who want to be change agents to build teams and cultures that support excellence.You will learn the mindset, habits, and practices that result in continuously improving both your software and your team. By the end of this workshop, you’ll have a deeper understanding of what technical agility is, and how you and your team can achieve it.We designed this course to span 8 weeks so that attendees can participate while continuing to carry on their usual responsibilities at work. Each attendee receives:<ul><li>A lifetime license to our effective and interactive <a href="https://elearning.industriallogic.com/gh/submit?Action=AlbumContentsAction&album=trw&devLanguage=Java" title="https://elearning.industriallogic.com/gh/submit?Action=AlbumContentsAction&album=trw&devLanguage=Java" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Testing &amp; Refactoring Box Set</a> from our <a href="https://www.industriallogic.com/eLearning/" title="https://www.industriallogic.com/eLearning/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">eLearning</a> platform(a primary reference for the class, and the source of many of the interactive, automatically-critiqued exercises the class will perform)</li><li>Articles, cheat sheets, and resources</li><li>Online access to Industrial Logic coaches between sessions</li></ul> Supported Languages:<ul><li>Java</li><li>C#</li><li>Python</li></ul> Prerequisites:<ul><li>Attendees should already have some experience in the programming language they are using in the class.</li><li>We recommend (but do not require) the use of an IDE with built-in refactoring support, such as Eclipse, or the language-appropriate IDE from JetBrains.</li><li>Developers will need headphones or speakers, a microphone, and an internet connection sufficient for online video/audio meetings.</li><li>Web cameras are highly recommended.</li><li>You commit to attending two meetings weekly, with another 2-6 hours between meetings to complete assignments.</li></ul> <h2>What You'll Learn</h2>Topics vary according to the needs of the attendees, but typically include:<ul><li>Technical Safety</li><li>Test-driven development (TDD)</li><li>Collaboration via Pair Programming and Mob Programming</li><li>Microtesting</li><li>Creative Conflict and Psychological Safety</li><li>Code Smells and Refactoring</li><li>Faking and Mocking</li><li>Legacy Code Techniques</li></ul> <h2>Workshop Details</h2><ul><li>The class begins on March 31, 2025 and runs for 8 weeks.</li><li>There are two sessions each week, one on Monday and the other on Thursday, each delivered over Zoom (or similar).</li><li>Monday’s online meeting is New Challenge Day, with new concepts, techniques, resources, and assignments given to attendees. It typically runs 2 hours.</li><li>Attendees are given lifetime licenses to Industrial Logic’s innovative <a href="https://elearning.industriallogic.com/gh/submit?Action=AlbumContentsAction&album=trw&devLanguage=Java" title="https://elearning.industriallogic.com/gh/submit?Action=AlbumContentsAction&album=trw&devLanguage=Java" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Testing &amp; Refactoring Box Set</a> (eLearning), which is a primary source of information and exercises in the course.</li><li>Attendees will complete assignments, taking approximately 2-6 hours depending on the week.</li><li>As attendees apply these techniques to their daily work, they will journal their successes and challenges.</li><li>Thursday’s online meeting is Completion Day when attendees will discuss and compare their experiences applying new techniques and ideas during the week in their daily work.
