Join us for the 1st Annual Digital Surgery 3D Printing Symposium! 

Digital Technologies like 3D printing, Artifical Intelligence, and the Internet of things are changing everything. Healthcare is expected to be one of the areas that will be hit hardest by this disruption. In the 1st Digital Surgery Symposium, we'll provide an in-depth look at real cases where these technologies have been used to improve patient outcomes and see real testimonies of surgeons who use it in their day to day practices as well as engineers leading the change. 

The full session will be held at the Jim W Henderson Building from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM*

Speakers: 

Dr. Carlos Eduardo Torres

Dr. Torres is a Plastic Surgeon with more than 10 years' experience. His second specializations are in hand surgery and reconstructive microsurgery. He is an expert in free flaps, peripheric nerve surgery, brachial plexus, wrist arthroscopy, facial and facial palsy. He studied medicine in Colombia's National University and did his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery in the same university. He later completed his fellowship in Hand and Reconstructive microsurgery as well as training in wrist arthroscopy. He is a member of the Colombian Plastic Surgeon's Association, the Colombian Hand Surgeon's Association, the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS), and a member of the faculty in the FUCS University in Colombia. He has presented at conferences in a number of national and international events and has several publications to his name. 

Dr. Torres' experience has led to him receiving the Arcadio Forero and Guillermo Nieto Cano awards by the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery. He presently works in his private practice as well as the San Jose teaching Hospital in Bogota.


Dr. Zaki Antonia Taissoum

Dr. Taissoun is a specialist in Medical Oncology as well as Head and Neck Surgery and Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery. He is an expert in cancer diagnosis, thyroid cancer, throat and larynx cancer, head and neck tumors and thyroid disease. He studied medicine in the Univerity of Zulia in Venezuela where he also got his residency in
general surgery. He specialized in oncologic surgery and head and neck surgery in the UNAM in Mexico in cooperation with the Nacional Cancer Institute of Mexico. Dr. Taissoun has participated in numerous congresses, meetings, and courses as a speaker and instructor. He has a considerable number of publications to his name and has written chapters in books, journals and manuals available internationally.

Some of these publications include the Journal of Endocrinology, Cell & Cellular Life Sciences Journal, eCancer, and the Manual for the National Cancer Institute of Mexico. He is a member of the Venezuelan Surgery Society, the American Head and Neck Society and the Latin American Thyroid Society. Today he runs his private practice in the city of Medellin, Colombia, and works with numerous hospitals in the country for the treatment of oncologic head and neck patients.


Dr. Camilo Arango

Dr. Arango is a Dentist and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who specializes in oncology and complex reconstruction.
He earned both his degrees in the CES University in Medellin, Colombia. And has had his work presented in numerous national and international congresses including the Colombian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The AAOMS Annual Meeting and the European Congress for Cranio-facial surgery. He has significant experience with the reconstruction of mandibular and maxillary cancer patients by means of a free fibula flap and has used 3D technology in more than 80 of these cases, which he has been following and publishing.


Mauricio Toro MSc.

Mauricio is a mechanical engineer with an MSc in Motorsport Engineering and Management. After studying in motorsport, he decided to start using the technologies used in wind tunnel models for race cars to improve the outcomes of surgical patients. He created the TECHFIT business unit within Industrias Médicas Sampedro and has planned or overseen the planning of more than 1200 surgical cases using the technology. He has several patents to his name and is passionate about developing technologies that save lives. He has been a speaker in national and international engineering and medical events where he has advocated for new technologies and how they can positively impact the way we treat patients.
