Overview

What do 3000 low orbit satellites, community platforms, AI, and reality TV have in common?

They all play into our upcoming conversation Friday, Dec. 8th with four global thought leaders (Bill Melton; Founder of Verifone, "Bud" James; CTO MySpace, Edward West; Founder of Hylo, Matthew Schutte; Dir. Comm Holo) on the pressure points for shifting from an extractive (selfish) to an additive (selfless) humanity.

This evening will be an "unpanel" --- each panelist will present a defining question for this topic, which the audience explore with the panelists and in small group discussions.

The discussion will be far reaching, but will center on the major technological breakthroughs critical to reversing our trend of self-destruction. We'll brush upon Nobel Prize winning Economist Muhammad Yunus' work that points to the selfless quality of human nature as being the most important driving force to reversing the trends of global self-destruction. This is the shift from an extractive to additive humanity, where our efforts uplift and support ourselves AND the world.

It's hard to imagine a better group of humans to tackle these questions with us:

Bill Melton founded Verifone (one of the world's largest payments companies) and has been at the helm of shaping global transactions and economic trends. Bill has played a major role in building the transaction systems that run the consumer economy and is now breaking out of that structure to envision a whole new structure of ecomony based on humans selflessness and how we can create value. Bill has been an entrepreneur building global technology companies for more than 30 years. He also founded GIV Global Private Equity, and Cybercash Inc., and Transaction Network Services Inc. Bill holds a Master’s degree in Asian Studies and Chinese Philosophy. 

Robert “Bud” James, PhD, M.Div., BSIT, is a seasoned C-Level executive with more than 35 years of experience.  As the original CTO of MySpace.com he helped design and manage the world’s first Social Media platform. As CTO of A-OK he helped design, create, and patent the first debit card transaction engine over the Internet for Star Systems and Citibank. As President and CTO of One Sphera, Inc. (a Public Benefit Corp) and co-founder of Connecting the Good Worldwide, Inc. (a NonProfit) Bud’s primary focus is on the co-creation and operation of the business, as well as the co-design, co-creation, and implementation of the One Sphera Community Platform.  This Platform introduces a revolutionary construct of how local organizations, government agencies, citizens, and whole regions can be transformed to function as a thriving, collaborative web.


Edward West is an entrepreneur and product designer building infrastructure for the new economy. He is the Co-Founder of Hylo, a next-generation social network that enables groups to communicate, collaborate, and share resources. He is also Co-Founder of Impact Hub Oakland and Mission Motors. Edward believes that a vibrant, connected, collaborative humanity can heal divides, and connect each of us to our deepest gifts.. He is an advisor to numerous startups, and has taught at entrepreneurship at the Presidio Graduate School and California College of the Art's MBA in Design Strategy.


Mathew Schutte is Director of Communications at Holo, a peer-to-peer application hosting network that enables anyone with spare computing capacity to earn cryptocurrency by providing processing, storage or bandwidth services to other users. Matthew is a graduate of Berkeley Law School, and occasionally surfs 50 foot waves at the world famous Mavericks in Northern California.
