Are you responsible for organizing a Team of Teams? Are you getting ready to lead a program with multiple agile teams working together? Is the product you are building more complex than any system your organization has ever built before?

This workshop teaches the fundamentals of team and value stream design and equips you to begin successful real-world, large-scale, agile program development. Tom shares real world examples of the application of these ideas in practice.

Learn how to recognize key team types essential to the design of healthy value streams and enhance your understanding of the key principles of organizational design. You will learn the different types of system boundaries that must be accounted for in large scale design. Together we will explore how to describe value streams using a Value Stream Design Sketch. Finally, we will study how to launch and realize a Team of Teams through training, sequencing, and validation.

The goal of this class is to share and understand the essential tools that you need to build a high performing team of teams. Together we explore how to design and build effective agile work groups at scale.

Value Stream Discovery – Learn the defining values and principles that are essential for understanding the underlying mechanics of successful value streams. We cover topics including discussions of Conway’s Law, Dunbar’s number, and implications of the Constructal Law

Agile Team Types – Not all teams are created equal. Learn about the 4 key team typologies that underlie all organizations

Value Stream Types – Value streams can have unique types, learn what they are and how they apply to organizational design

Team Launch and Realization – You’ve identified your value stream, designed your teams, and assembled your value stream, now how do you make this plan real?
