Devising Within A Democracy Workshop with the TEAM

The TEAM is an internationally-recognized Brooklyn-based theatre ensemble. Our mission is to collaboratively create new works about the experience of living in America today.The Guardiandescribed us as "theatrical excavators of American culture, American dreams and the American psyche." Combining aggressive athleticism with emotional performances and intellectual rigor, our work crashes characters from American history and mythology into modern stories, drawing unexpected connections across time to touch the raw nerves of the current moment.

The TEAM

The TEAM creates all of our work collaboratively through a variety of strategies including physical and verbal improvisation, solo and group writing assignments, and character and movement compositions. In a final production it is nearly impossible to trace any one line of dialogue or image back to a single author’s hand.
These workshops gives participants insight into a mini devising process, providing tools and strategies for solo and group creation, working through delicate issues of collaboration and group authorship, and bridging into the editing and synthesizing process.
Topics covered include:

<LI>Generating material through physical and written assignments</LI>
<LI>Cultivating an ensemble bond and navigating emotional waters amidst a process</LI>
<LI>Strategies for editing as a group</LI>
<LI>Building Dances</LI>
<LI>Writing on your feet (and other approaches to improvisation)</LI>
</UL>
This workshop is open to artists at all levels of experience, ages 18+.
