About this event

TBRI® for Caregivers: 4 Part Training Series. Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) is the gold-standard in care for children who have experienced early childhood adversity. This series is geared toward foster, kinship and adoptive parents.

In this four-part series you will learn the 3 main principles of TBRI® and the practical tools to implement them. TBRI® is a holistic, attachment-based, evidence-based, and trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the needs of vulnerable children. Because trauma impacts all aspects of a child's life oftentimes traditional parenting methods don't work. This series will equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to help the child in your care get back on their appropirate developmental trajectory and strategies for handling challenging behaviors.

May 6 Introduction and Overview Learn the why behind TBRI®, how attachment develops, how trauma impacts the brain and what you can do to initiate hope and healing.

May 8 Connecting Principles Learn what happens when attachment is disrupted, how to communicate in a way that establishes felt safety for your child and how your own adult attachment impacts your parenting.

May 13 Empowering Principles Learn how trauma impacts the child's physiological and enviromental needs. Gain insight and tools to meet their unique sensory related needs and help develop self-regulation skills.

May 15 Correcting Principles Learn how to disarm challenging fear based behaviors, replace them with appropriate ones, balance structure and nurture and set appropirate expectations.

This group will meet from 10am-12pm on Zoom for 4 training classes. Although it's best to attend all four trainings in sequential order, you may join as many as your schedule allows.

Presenter Info: The class is taught by Tristen McGhee, RDN, MEd in Neuroscience & Trauma, Adoptive Mom & Certified Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) Practitioner. Digital participant guide will be emailed prior to class. Participation certificates will be issued for each training attended, videos must be on.

This class is a part of Los Angeles County's Foster & Kinship Care Education (FKCE) program to help you stay current with best practices in parenting. These FKCE classes are designated for Lost Angeles County, CA residents in partnership with El Camino Community College. Thank you!
