Marco Irato, of Tradizione Imports, has been tasting wine for almost his adult life since he grew up with a family who had restaurants in Milazzo in Sicily and was surrounded by wine lovers at this early age.
His appreciation became profound when he first came to the USA and co-owned a small restaurant in New York City back in the mid 1990's. He took pride in the small, but well-cured, wine list and later left the restaurant business in 1998 and worked for a major distributor in the New York as an Italian Wine Specialist and oversaw the Italian portfolio.
In 2010, he oversaw the creation of Tradizione Imports, where he and his colleague, spent much time searching various regions in Italy for the small, "mom and pop" wineries, who grew and made wine from indigenous grapes of that region. Since its inception, Tradizione's portfolio has grown into a well-picked, thoughtful realization of the beautiful wines from small, lesser-known wineries from all twenty regions of Italy.
Each year, Marco travels to Italy where he meets with wine makers as well as saying hello to his current suppliers, who have, after many years, become part of the Tradizione family.
