Sunchild was first introduced to her love of music when she started piano lessons at age 3 with her father, Jimmie Highsmith Jr. She then went on to start private piano lessons at age 7 and then flute lessons at age 8. At 10, Sunchild was accepted into The Eastman School of Music's Pathways Program where she perfected her flute tone, dexterity and precision. and then went on to graduate from School of the Arts, majoring in music. Sunchild has opened up and played with artists such as Danielle Ponder, Durand Benarr, Wesley Franklin, Tika, and most-recently Billboard chart topping bassist, Phylicia Rae to name a few. She is the recipient of several recommendations and awards, including "Best Contemporary Instrumental" in Omega Psi Phi's Talent Hunt, three years in a row; 2019 Roc Award for "Best Band" and most-recently a commendation from Rochester City Council for uplifting the community with her music and community engagement, through her musical group LunaSolChild. Through her work of curating, activism, and musicianship Sunchild was included in a mural amongst legendary musicians honoring the memory of the Pythodd Jazz Club!
