Tape
Overview

Tape by Stephen Belber, Directed by Grant Lee Bomar

This partially gender-reversed telling of Stephen Belber’s Tape, from Student Academy Award-qualified director Grant Bomar, features an all-female cast and explores how identity can be augmented by artificial masks stemming from subjectivity in memory, truth, and perception. Drawing inspiration from the play's 2001 Richard Linklater film adaptation, this story is rooted in Austin artistic culture. In Tape, Jon, an aspiring and idealistic filmmaker, hooks up for the weekend with his best friend from high school, Vince, a volunteer fireman who makes money selling dope. Over the course of the evening, Vince finally gets Jon to admit that ten years ago he date-raped Amy Randall, a girl whom they both dated in high school – only then to reveal that he’s taped their entire conversation. And not only that, he’s invited Amy to have dinner with them that night…
