Talkies

Talkies is the West Coast's best unconventional, experimental, and multimedia live comedy event. At Talkies, comedians, writers, improvisers, and performers work outside of their regular routines to push the boundaries of comedy; PowerPoint presentations, characters, and off-stage antics are the order of the day.

Started in the San Francisco Mission District basement of Lost Weekend Video store, this monthly show has been an incubator for many unique comedy talents spreading their wings on weird flights of fancy. 

Past guest performers have included: Aparna Nancherla, James Adomian, Ron Lynch, Sheng Wang, and Lizzy Cooperman. During the pandemic Talkies pivoted to a livestream format and built a cult following online. Since Spring 2022 the monthly show has found its new Los Angeles home on Third Thursdays at Echo Park’s VHS palace Whammy Analog. The Talkies crew has also performed at the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive, San Francisco Punch Line, Santa Cruz Comedy Festival, Sacramento Comedy Spot, and the Nevada City Film Festival.

TALKIES is hosted by Nick Stargu, Aviva Siegel, George Chen, and Land Smith-Abbinate. With guests Kyle Ayers, Sara Benincasa, Jared Kassebaum, and Iain Langlands.

This is a partially seated show. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrive early to get a seat!
