About this event

Charles and Sara Michell and Revd Dr Guy Sumpter welcome Jonathan Aitken to speak on "Through all the Changing Scenes of Life" at the Eye Parish Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul to help raise money for the church building.

Jonathan Aitken, who grew up and was educated in Suffolk, is delighted to be returning to Eye to help raise funds for the work of our church.

Jonathan has had an unusually colourful life and eventful career.

In journalism he started out as a 17-year-old Assistant Tennis and Funerals reporter for the East Anglian Daily Times. Later he became a war correspondent in Vietnam and is the author of 19 books.

In politics he was an MP for 25 years and a Cabinet Minister. His career ended when he told a lie in a libel case, pleaded guilty to charges of perjury and served an 18-month prison sentence. He is now a Priest and Prison Chaplain at HMP Pentonville.

Jonathan’s talk “Through all the Changing Scenes of Life” should be full of humour and interest.

The evening will begin and end with a glass of wine and music performed on the Binns Organ by Tim Patient.

His talk will be followed by a Q & A.
