About Mark Koven
The Utah-based artist will use the residency to continue working on his traveling project Taking One’s Temperature comprising of an interactive and participatory installation that integrates scientific data collection, contemporary educational models, and technology with the arts. During his time in Miami the artist will collect footage for a film exploring Miami's natural environment and its challenges to be featured as an immersive 360-degree surround sound and video escape within a mobile planetarium dome. The installation will take place in the spring/summer 2017.
This Fall ArtCenter/South Florida launched ARTSail, an artist residency aboard a sailboat, with a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its 2015 Knight Arts Challenge.
ARTSail, in partnership with the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, is a nomadic, floating art project that seeks to provide artists and cultural practitioners with the opportunity to research and explore the extensive coastlines and waterways that surround Miami. ArtCenter will host the residencies at ArtCenter/Downtown and on partner vessels where residents will be invited to further existing research or generate new work in response to Miami’s relationship to the water.
