About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

Join us for Take A Moment: an unplugged series of free all-ages events focused on healing and community. Each offering invites you to luxuriate in an offline space designed for you to be in solitude or in community while you read, knit, draw, write, play games, color or... In addition to designing a space where you can simply be, we encourage you to browse a book collection curated by Friends of the Santa Monica Library.

For this iteration in honor of Mental Health Awareness we are offering the following workshops:

SCHEDULE

11:30 – 12:30PM – SUPERBLOOM COLLECTIVE

Superbloom Collective is dedicated to making wellness and human connection more accessible. Their workshop DISCOVERY is a fun, playful, and deeply connecting experience that incorporates Breathwork, Guided Meditation, Dynamic Stretching, and Free Movement.

Superbloom Collective is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to making wellness and in-person connection more accessible through free, donation-based, and sliding-scale classes, workshops, and social and community events at shared spaces around LA.

12:30 - 1:30 PM - CAMERA OBSCURA ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE – FLORA KAO

This workshop will focus on art making that fosters healing through sacred Buddhist color and symbology. Join the artist in making origami lotus and writing to communally process loss, grief, and trauma.

1:303 PM – INTERACTIVE THEATRE WITH CAPITAL W

This Mental Health Awareness Month, Capital W asks, what happens when we bring an expansive approach to wellness, making it not just about our individual needs, but our community’s needs? How can we seek wellness together, in ways that make our communities - and ourselves - more resilient? In this interactive workshop, participants will create mini-rituals that address the challenges of everyday life and the gifts they want to share with others. The session takes place on the sand, using the beach as inspiration and laboratory for exploration.

Capital W is a radical theater collaboration that creates experiential art. They open portals to fundamental aspects of the Human Experience in order to create a more compassionate world. Pushing beyond the boundaries of what is considered theater, story, and art into a realm of experience and feeling their work is a collaboration with their artists and audiences.

We also encourage guests to tour the Marion Davies Guest House from 12-2pm.
