About this event

Don't miss the rare chance to witness a Taíno Areyto, a ceremonial dance of the Taino, the indigenous people of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti/Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. Twenty members of the Concilio Taíno Guatu-Ma-cu A Borikén (Puerto Rico) are bringing this performance to Chicago for the first time! It's a unique opportunity to learn about the Taíno Indigenous people of Puerto Rico (Borikén) and their rich traditions.

This performance is a highlight of our exhibition, ¡Taíno Vive! Caribbean Indigenous Resistance, in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institute, the Field Museum, and the Concilio Taíno Guatu-Ma-cu A Borikén. We will set up a tent with seating on our beautiful lawn to recreate a Batey-like space for this historic ceremony.

  • Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 12 PM
