Savile Row are known world wide for their high end, hand crafted suits. Even in Japan the word for suit is &#x27;sebiru&#x27;, a corruption of &#x27;Savile Row’. It is a street in Mayfair that has housed and trained tailors for 250 years. This course is a taster of what Savile Row tailoring is. The day will consist of secrets of the trade. From hand stitching to techniques used to make these high class garments.Your tutor is Emma Brigitte MartinShe has been a coat maker on Savile Row for 13 years. Learning her tailoring skills from the very best master tailors. She became BBC 3&#x27;s Young Tailor of the Year in 2011 and has since appeared in Vogue and gone on to train her own apprentice, whom recently won Rising Star at the prestigious Golden Shears competition on Thread `Needle street. She has taught many others from course classes to interns.The dayThe morning will be filled with learning different hand stitches and tailoring techniques which Emma uses in her own coatmaking. These new skills will then be transferred into making a tie from the highest quality material, bought from the same cloth merchants Savile Row uses for their garments.Whether you are a dress maker keen to see a different side of making or intrigued by the craftsmanship of tailoring and want to know more, come and join Emma to expand your knowledge in this heritage craft. What you will get out of the day-A book of hand stitches and techniques-A tie made of the finest cloth-Knowledge in Savile Row tailoring-A day in a tailor&#x27;s workshopPlease bring a note pad and pen to write down your new found skills to use them in your next project. Bring shears, thimble, snips or any equipment you love. These will also be available upon request.
