Taiko Drumming Workshops

WCCMA was founded in 2008 as the Summer Concert Series at Union Church as an organization presenting outstanding musical performers. In the fall of 2011 SCSUC official adopted the identity of the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts and expanded to include music and arts programs. Workshops are available in a variety of disciplines, and are offered for the general public and/or youth. We are committed to improving access to the arts by offering programs with no admission charge so that no one is excluded from participating based on financial factors.WCCMA provides professional perfomances and arts education; much of it with admission by optional donation. Programs are offered for youth and the general public of all experience levels.

Japanese Drumming Returns to the Claremont area! Stuart Paton of the Burlington Taiko Group of Burlington, Vt will return to Claremont and Charlestown for a special music residency program. This annual program presented by the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts (wcc-ma.org) is a local favorite, and incorporates school workshops, public workshops, and a big public performance at the end of the program. There is an opportunity for everyone of all age groups to experience this exciting musical experience. Japanese Taiko Drumming is an invigorating ancient Japanese art that incorporates Japanese culture, physical movements, and rhythm. Programs are all by donation, so that everyone in the community can participate without financial barrier. This program was supported in part by a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts New England State Touring programs, the NH State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Programs will be held around the region including 5th graders in Charlestown, and public programs at the CSB Community Center, and the final performance big at Union Church in Claremont. Programs will include:
Workshops: Learn the art of Japanese Taiko Drumming with Sensei Stuart Paton of Burlington Taiko Group. Each workshop will also have a rehearsal the day of the performance by Burlington Taiko Group. $25 suggested free will donation for afternoon and evening session, choose your donation amount at the Saturday workshop. Ages 10 and up, no experience required. Advanced registration is strongly suggested below, or by emailing melissa@wcc-ma.org

Evening Workshop at TBA, Claremont Wednesday, Sept 13 and Friday, Sept 15 at 6:30 - 8:00pm
