Join us for the second of three educational programs that provide you with an overview of the skills you need to raise capital for your startup. Dawn Haynes (bio below) and Derek Barnett (bio below) will walk founders through the importance of Pitch Decks when raising capital. Their unique background and experience working with founders provide them with key insights into how to best present companies to capital allocators.

Dawn Haynes (Bio)

Dawn Haynes is CEO of StarterStudio, Central Florida’s only 501(c)3 nonprofit organization focused on accelerating tech and tech-enabled pre-seed startups. With a rich variety of virtual and hybrid programs, StarterStudio supports founders through all pre-seed stages of a startup.

Dawn has over 40 years’ executive leadership experience driving innovation, strategy, business growth and economic development across a broad spectrum of industry sectors in both domestic and international markets. She has worked for multi-national organizations including British Airways, The Walt Disney Company, and Weight Watchers International, as well as running her own consulting company that assisted both entrepreneurial (startup and growth) and corporate clients. Dawn holds an MBA from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College and has served as an Adjunct Professor in the professional MBA program at the UCF Executive Development Center.

Dawn’s “People First” philosophy, collaborative leadership style, and passion for problem-solving has supported the facilitation of numerous successful alignments of people, processes and systems in entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial initiatives to implement strategic solutions to maximize commercial, cultural and social impact.

In addition, Dawn currently serves as Board Chair for the Samaritan Resource Center and serves on the Community Services Board at Catholic Charities of Central Florida.

Derek Barnett (Bio)

Derek comes from a long career in finance, venture capital, and ecosystem development. Currently, he helps lead Silicon Valley Bank's expansion into the early-stage ecosystem in Florida. Derek's professional experience spans multiple roles from leading the venture capital arm of a family office, a venture partner at an early-stage venture capital firm, investor at a private equity mid-market buyout firm, and a risk analyst at multiple buy side investment firms. Derek graduated with a Master's of Finance from Queen's University and is also a Certified Scrum Master ("CSM"), a Certified Scrum Product Owner ("CSPO"), Chartered Investment Manager ("CIM"), and holds a Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement ("CIPM") from the CFA Institute. In addition, Derek also sits on the Executive Board of Queen's University's Alternative Asset Fund.
