Sustainable Wardrobe Workshop: Mend, Care, and Swap

Join us for an enriching and interactive workshop focused on cultivating a more sustainable wardrobe through hand mending techniques, fabric care instructions, and thought-provoking discussions about sustainable fibres. This workshop is for anyone interested in prolonging the life of their garments, reducing textile waste, and embracing a more environmentally conscious approach to their style. This will be a hands-on, interactive community experience, like an old-timey social or quilting bee.

Workshop Highlights:

Hand Mending Techniques:

  • Learn valuable skills in hand mending, including basic sewing stitches, patching, darning, and other repair techniques. We will guide you through the process, empowering you to mend your clothes with confidence and creativity. Bring along your torn or damaged garments, and let's breathe new life into them together. We will explore ideas around alterations, modifications and repurposing textiles.

Fabric Care Instructions:

  • Discover the importance of proper fabric care in extending the longevity of your clothing. From washing and drying to storage, we will share practical tips and tricks for maintaining the quality and appearance of your garments. Learn how to decipher fabric labels, recognize different materials, and tailor your care routine to suit specific textiles.

Conversations about Sustainable Fibres:

  • Engage in thought-provoking dialogues about the impact of various fibres on the environment along with the complexity of sustainability in fibre production. Gain insights into the challenges of conventional textile production and learn how choosing sustainable clothing can contribute to a more ethical and accountable industry.

Clothing Swap:

  • We will wrap up the workshop with a fun and nature-friendly clothing swap! Bring gently used clothing items that no longer serve you, but still have plenty of life left in them. Exchange your pre-loved pieces with fellow participants, refreshing your wardrobe without spending a dime and diverting clothing from landfills. It's a fantastic way to give your clothes a second chance and embrace the principles of circular fashion. All remaining clothing will be donated to the local woman’s shelter.

Whether you're a mending enthusiast, a sustainability advocate, or simply curious about making more mindful choices in your wardrobe, this workshop offers valuable insights and practical skills for cultivating a more sustainable closet. Join us and take a step towards a more conscious and compassionate approach to consumption.
