Sustainable Saturday: 15th Annual Boston Harbor Island Stewardship Day

By MIT Sloan Boston Alumni Association

Date and time

Saturday, September 7, 2019 · 9am - 3pm EDT

Location

EDIC Pier Ferry Terminal

Boston, MA 02111

Description

Sloanies, join us for a day of stewardship on Thompson Island, one of Boston Harbor's spectacular islands. We will work to help preserve and maintain this unique natural resource. Tasks include everything from clearing brush to picking up trash along the shoreline.
Time: 9:00am - 3:00pm. Please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to departure to allow time for boarding.

Where: We will be departing from EDIC Pier Ferry Terminal at the west end of Reserved Channel, close to Summer St in Seaport. EDIC Pier is short distance towards the water from the Dry Dock Cafe (a good landmark) and is located near a grassy patch known as Marine Industrial Park (another good landmark). This location is notoriously difficult to find your first time, so please plan ahead and give yourself 15-20 more minutes than you think you'll need.

Getting there: We recommend parking at 12 Drydock Avenue Parking Garage. You will need to walk about 1 block to the EDIC Pier. The nearest MBTA Station is South Station (Red Line), however the Silver Line (SL2) bus will stop on Dry Dock Ave. (Stop ID 31255) near the dock and the MBTA bus 7 stops at Summer Street and Pappas Way very close by. Check schedules ahead of time because weekend schedules mean buses run less frequently.

Food: We will provide box lunches, as well as coffee, tea and pastries dock side to get us started.

Clothing: We recommend long-sleeve clothes and closed-toe shoes, and dress for changeable weather. Bring a hat, sunscreen and a re-fillable water bottle. Tools, gloves, lunch and extra water will be provided, but it is important to stay hydrated.

Note: The trip runs rain or shine, but may be cancelled if weather is severe.
