Sustainable Eco-Dyeing workshop at Ragfinery

This exploration of eco-dyeing begins by gathering plants from your neighborhood to dye with natural materials. Serendipity is always at play as you experiment with various plants to see what happens in the dyepot, creating unique and intriguing results. We’ll dye small pieces of silk or wool that can be used to make a project bag and each person will dye a silk scarf. Ages 16+

Impact: Protect yourself and the environment from harmful dye materials by using ecologically sustainable plant dyes and reuse small silk and wool fabric pieces.

Participant and Materials Requirements: Please bring leaves such as smoke bush, Japanese maple, rose, Sweet gum, oak, walnut, sumac leaves and berries; and small pieces (1/2 yd or less) of various silks and wools.

About the Instructor: Judy Newland has been a weaver, spinner, and dyer for over 30 years and now concentrates on natural dyeing and weavings that reinterpret textiles from different cultures. Her special interest is eco-dyeing and indigo culture around the world.
