Sustainable Cooking Class

For my senior project, I am looking at the relationship between household food waste and college students' proper cooking and eating efficacy. Research has shown that learning cooking skills at a formative age can help reduce food waste in households by teaching them useful skills such as preparation, cooking techniques, and how to best use up ingredients. My club, the Cal Poly Food Recovery Network has partnered with Bliss Cafe, a restaurant that focuses on healthy and sustainable eating and living to teach a cooking class to students to help give them these skills, and in turn, reduce their food waste!

The chef will provide an easy recipe that can be replicated at home, consisting of yellow curry, rice, and a salad that will feature similar ingredients used in different ways to showcase useful cooking skills to reduce food waste.

The event will take place on Cal Poly's campus, in Building 24 (Food Processing Building) Room 103 from 5pm - 7pm on Tuesday, June 4th.
