This period stuck at home together can be a pressure cooker. But it doesn’t have to be. As families figure out how to share space, share chores, get our work done, and exercise healthy habits in this new reality, we have a choice: do it with blame and guilt and payback and yucky feelings, or do it with clarity, cooperation, connection, and caring? Either way we’re modeling for our kids how to be, and giving them practice with the methods we use.In this four session class, parents will learn from two leaders, Aaron Eden and Bria Bloom, who are pioneering how to Rethink Adulting and Partner with Youth (see their bios below). Learn their method for using Non-Violent Communication (NVC), Restorative Practices, and the principles of Self-Directed Education (SDE) to not only more greatly enjoy our lives with our children now, but to better prepare them for the futures we want for them by practicing together the most important skills for work, life, and contentment.Aaron and Bria find that these four areas are the most common pain points for families right now:<ul><li>Structure (agreements, schedules, expectations)</li><li>Chores</li><li>Education (schoolwork)</li><li>Screen time</li></ul>In this class series, Bria and Aaron will help parents find ways to address all of these challenge areas with new skills based on their successful work with families all over the world. They will introduce the basic principles to guide you in your parenting practice, show how they are aligned with what you want for yourselves and your children, and provide tools, structures, and practices to continue to use them to grow as a parent and partner into the future.Classes will meet at the following dates and times:<ul><li>May 14, 10:00 - 11:00 PDT</li><li>May 21, 10:00 - 11:00 PDT</li><li>May 28, 10:00 - 11:00 PDT</li><li>June 4, 10:00 -11:00 AM PDT</li></ul><ul></ul>Your CoachesAaron Eden is a prominent global catalyst for transforming education, working with schools, learning centers, and families (as well as businesses and non-profits) around the world to re-humanize how we work, learn, and live. Informed by restorative practices, non-violent communication, and applied mindfulness, Aaron’s work focuses on co-creation as a means to transform how we relate to ourselves, to each other, and to our shared endeavors. He trains parents, teachers, leaders, and youth across diverse environments and cultures to shift from domination-based endeavor to a co-creative model, and to fully support and use Self-Directed Education principles in everything we do. He is co-founder of the consulting firm Eliad Group, and is Executive Director of pioneering education programs Brightworks and Tinkering School.Bria Bloom is a born and raised unschooler. Through growing up as an unschooler she has had personal, life-long experience in the values of partnership-based parenting and Self-Directed Education, which has led her to become an advocate for these practices. Bria has the daily joy of parenting a 9-year-old son, as well as facilitates with young people in various communities. She is also a writer, co-organizer of Portland SDE, and Executive Director for the Alliance for Self-Directed Education. Bria supports and helps build communities centered around Self-Directed Education, both internationally through the Alliance’s local SDE groups initiative, and locally through co-organizing an advocacy and support group in Portland, OR. She has facilitated workshops and discussions on deschooling, facilitating SDE, unschooling, adultism, parenting in SDE, building authentic relationships with young people, and more.
