Join us on the beach for a Surf Fishing Clinic! We will teach you skills for setting up your tackle, tying fishing knots, choosing the best rigs and bait, and surf casting. The best part is that everyone will get to try their hand at fishing! Kids from age 8 to adults are welcome, so come out and play, enjoy the outdoors and make this a Fishing Fun Day!
*Note: This clinic is free but you must pay the entrance fee into the park.
Details for the event:
• What to bring: Dress is casual. Check the weather report and dress appropriately as you will be outside. Other items to consider bringing include a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, bug spray, rain coat, towel, reusable water bottle and a change of clothes and shoes for your drive home. Bait, rods, and tackle will be provided for the duration of the clinic. This is a catch-and-release only clinic.
• Fishing License: If you are planning on fishing during the clinic and you are 16 years or older, you must have a valid SC saltwater fishing license. You can either purchase one online here or you can purchase one at our SCDNR Titling Offices. We do now have a new SCDNR Tilting Office in Horry County. Address is 640 9th Ave, Aynor, SC 29511 (Open M-F, 8:30-5PM, with the exception of Wed. mornings, open at 9:30AM), Walmart’s, sporting goods stores or tackle shops.
• Costs: The clinic is free of charge.
• Weather: Clinics are held rain or shine unless hazardous weather occurs
• Parking: We will be meeting at shelter 3. Once you enter the park, keep driving straight. Turn left at the fork towards the learning center then keep driving straight. Shelter 3 will be on your left, near the North Beach access. The instructional part will be there then we'll all walk to the beach to surf fish.
