About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Clearly democracy is under threat in the United States, and climate change is happening as we speak. These are not small things, but no matter what happens, it does not serve our children to believe that they are not going to make it. Climate change is happening, but it will ultimately change the Earth—and humans’ capacity to live on it—at a rate that is barely perceptible across one individual human life.

If a student believes they are not going to live past 25, what interest do they have in doing anything about it anyway? We want to help them imagine the future with themselves in it, and in ways that help them make choices that will decrease their fear and feel more proactive to make change.

This is an interactive workshop supporting teachers to navigate a moment in which students are experiencing uncertainty, anxiety and despair. How do we help them learn when they don’t foresee a future? Part of our job as educators is to support their knowledge acquisition, but we can’t do that unless we support their nervous systems too. In this workshop, we will work together to strategise techniques for helping students learn in difficult times.
