Event Description

2 x 3-hour sessions for staff who would like to develop a greater understanding of the needs of children with communication difficulties (understanding, processing, and talking) and the needs of children for whom language difficulties are their main barrier to learning, sometimes described as Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). In a new and updated course, we will be exploring the development of language skills, and gaining an understanding of how you can recognise and identify difficulties and contribute to assessment. The new course offers practical strategies, approaches and interventions for supporting children with a broad range of speech and language needs. In a relaxed, workshop environment, there will be lots of opportunities to ‘bring the learning to life’ and to experience and begin to use supportive strategies.

Aims/Objectives

Participants will be able to recognise these difficulties in pupils they support and will develop an understanding of how to work more effectively with outside agencies to identify specific needs, and to design and implement support and intervention programmes in schools.

Outcomes

School staff will develop greater understanding, skills and confidence in supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs in the classroom.
