Featured Presenters: Hanna Miller and Nelly Davis-Rodriguez, MSW 

Session Description: This workshop addresses the distinct challenges encountered by military mothers and women veterans and explores the barriers they face when seeking access to mental health support. Additionally, it provides an overview of Perinatal Anxiety and Mood Disorders, shedding light on their prevalence and impact within the military community. The discussion will extend to the sensitive topic of birth trauma and its profound effects on maternal mental health. Workshop participants will learn about resources tailored specifically for military mothers, empowering them to navigate these challenges with resilience and support. 

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

• Identify military maternal mental health issues, including postpartum depression and the impact of past traumas on mental well-being. 
• Assess the signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders. 
• Describe available support resources for maternal mental health, such as therapy, support groups, and helplines. 

Presenter Bio: Nelly Davis-Rodriguez

Nelly Davis-Rodriguez (she/her) is a Military Spouse currently residing with her wife and fur baby in Wiesbaden, Germany. She serves as the Lead Victim Advocate and Problematic Sexual Behavior in Children and Youth Subject Matter Expert in Army Europe, supporting all Family Advocacy Programs in the region. Nelly has a master’s in social work from Salisbury University.

Before her current position, Nelly worked as an Adolescents Services Case Manager at Care Plus NJ and as a Crisis Interventionist with Crisis Text Line. Her interest in maternal mental health was sparked during her time as an Intern at MotherlandCo, where she focused on supporting individuals facing perinatal anxiety and mood disorders, reproductive concerns, racial trauma, and challenges with life transition.

With her extensive experience, skills, and unwavering commitment to making a difference, Nelly is dedicated to empowering individuals and communities, advocating for their needs, and fostering positive change.

Presenter Bio: Hanna Miller

Hanna Miller is a dedicated MSW student at the University of Oklahoma, currently in her concentration year practicum at Salud Counseling Centers, under the mentorship of a former military spouse. As an Army spouse stationed at Fort Eisenhower, Georgia, and a mother of two, Hanna’s journey in social work is deeply rooted in her experiences within the military community. With a passion for military maternal mental health, particularly focusing on pregnancy and postpartum support, Hanna’s commitment extends to empowering women in the military, both service members and spouses. Hanna’s dedication to serving those who serve exemplifies her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of military families.

Workshop registrants will receive a code prior to the webinar to log on to Zoom and participate in the online session.

IMPORTANT: Attendance will be monitored. Participants must be logged on to the meeting by the workshop start time and participate in the entire event in order to earn CE credit.

Pro Bono Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Pro Bono Counseling maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Maryland Boards of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors and Therapists certify that this program meets the criteria for two (2) credit hours of continuing education for social workers (Category 1), professional counselors, and therapists (Category A ) licensed in Maryland.

CE credit is granted to participants with documented attendance at individual workshops. Attendance is monitored. Credit will not be granted to registrants who log on late or depart early from a session. It is the responsibility of registrants to comply with these requirements.
